Training new paramedics

The Gold Cross Ambulance Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Steven E. Gerbers to financially assist students who are pursuing paramedic training. Steve, or “Gerbs” as his co-workers called him, was employed by Gold Cross Ambulance for 29 years as a paramedic, paramedic supervisor and communications supervisor. He passed away in 2008 while still employed at Gold Cross Ambulance. The scholarship honors his character and attitude that truly showed his heart to help people in their time of need and his respect for the profession.

Scholarship applicants must be enrolled in a paramedic training program at Fox Valley Technical College, Lakeshore Technical College, Moraine Park Technical College or Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. Preference may be given to students enrolled in an associate degree paramedic program.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • A minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Volunteer or other experience in health-related fields
  • Community service
  • Financial need

The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to two students. It must be used for tuition and is non-renewable. The award is payable after successful completion of the first semester.
